A famous resident in Phetchaburi province, Yen Kaewmanee, well known as Pu Yen or Grandpa Yen, died at the age of 108 after he was found lying unconciously inside his houseboat on by his neighbours on Sunday morning.
After Grandpa Yen was admitted to Phra Chom Klao Hospital in Phetchaburi province, physicians hurriedly tried to revive him but failed.
At around 11am, the hospital announced that Grandpa Yen had passed away from heart failure at 10.40am.
The well-known Thai-Muslim elderly man who was much adored by the public was earlier granted a fibreglass houseboat by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, who also tasked officials to take good care of him.
Grandpa Yen had been widely known and respected for his self-sufficient and distinctive lifestyle when he decided to live on small fishing boats to save his expenses in his mid-90s.
